Western Student Connections

YouthWestern Student Connections is a Local Community Partnership (LCP) for the Dubbo, Central Macquarie, Macquarie Barwon and Upper Darling regions of New South Wales (NSW). We commenced business in October 2002 (as Macquarie Darling Work Placement Incorporated) to facilitate structured work placements to students in years 11 and 12.

Initially 950 students and 200 local employers were involved. In 2008 we have 1200 students and over 650 employers.

Starting this year, we have now gone into a new and exciting funding era with Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), which is funded by the Federal Government.

Adopt a School Programme

Aim - To build links between businesses, students, teachers and the broader school community through activities that increase knowledge and opportunities for careers and further education.

The ASP encompasses a suite of activities that benefit all young people including Indigenous young people, young people with a disability, young people 'at risk' of not making a successful transition through, and from school to further education and employment, and those with all levels of academic achievement.

Adopt a School projects will connect businesses with students through hands-on learning activities that will increase knowledge about training and career opportunities in a variety of industries, including in skills needs areas.

Career & Transition Support

The CTS Programme aims to facilitate delivery of enhanced career and transition support to young people aged 13-19 years, and to assist all young people to make a smooth transition through school, and from school into training, employment, or study.

The primary role of LCP’s under the CTS Programme is to facilitate access for young people to a range of career and transition support services which link with and complement existing programmes and services at the local LCP Service Region level. LCP’s will typically have a facilitation role, rather than directly delivering services to individual students and young people.

LCP's must consider existing career and transition support services being delivered.
