What is a School Based Traineeship?A School Based Traineeship (SBT) allows students to gain a nationally recognised qualification, usually at Certificate II level, as well as their Higher School Certificate (HSC) and gain valuable work skills and experience through paid employment. Students in Year 10 or Year 11 are eligable to commence an SBT. A Training Contract is signed by the employer, the trainee and their parent/guardian. A Training Plan is prepared by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which may be the student'sschool, TAFE or pother private RTO. The Training Plan is signed by the student, parent/guardian, school, RTO, and the school sector representative. A School Based Traineeship goes from the date of commencement up until the 31st December in the year the trainee completes Year 12. During this time the trainee must satisfactorily attain the traineeship qualification and complete the minimum number of days in paid employment, usually 100 days. The trainee may work in school time or out of school time. This is to be negotiated between the trainee, parent/guardian, employer and school to best meet the needs of the student and their HSC studies. The employer may be entitled to Employer Incentives which are currently $1250 to $2000. |
